A concentrated batch of original approaches in contemporary design with the Danube river in the background, on the topic of IDENTITY, 8 june 2018

Speakers:

Odd Matter (NL, BLG)

ODD MATTER is a designer duo of DurchElsWoldhek and Bulgarian GeorgiyManassiev. They are currently based in the Netherlands, but used to study at RCA and live in London. This utmost vital designer studio is driven by curiosity for everything odd and beautiful. Their fundamental approaches are research, experiment, searching both in the past and future. In their opinion, a new product can also come into being with an innocent/unbiased view on the existing processes and concepts. ODD MATTER were finalists of the prestigious Design Parade 10 prize in Villa Noailles.

Simona Janišová (SK)

Simona Janišová, the winner of BADW 2017, will present herself at Zoya Gallery with her new INSIDEOUT collection.

The physical body is a receptacle, a container for contents. Do we try to materialize this content with our own work? Is creation an extension of our inner self? So what do we really look like? The object/vessel Insideout is an abstract portrait, an effort to make the invisible present. In the material world, this endeavor is doomed to failure. In this world, the resulting object again becomes a vessel, the inner emptiness of which is waiting to be filled with content.

Francesco Pace (IT) / Tellurico

Tellurico is of Italian origin from a small village near Naples. However, he currently lives in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where he studied contextual design at DAE. Origin is important in his case, his Italian experience of living near an active volcano led him to explore the possibilities of using it in design work. In 2017, he founded the Tellurico brand, under which he creates. In Bratislava, he will premiere the new Stracciatella vase made of porcelain clay and lava stones, as well as demonstrations of volcanic glazing, where he uses lava as a ceramic glaze.

Ferreol Babin (FR)

Ferréol Babin comes from Dijon, France. Originally, he studied architecture and spatial design. Later, he began to focus more on creating objects. He studied in Nagoya and Reims. He was interested in the theme of light, which connects the object with space. He completed a one-year internship at Benetton. It works with various furniture and lighting manufacturers, where it can incorporate its intuitive design. It is characterized by a mixture of brutality and gentleness, respect for natural processes and handwork. Babin likes to say that he has dirty hands, and he is not afraid to mix the media. Painting, sculpture, design and craft. He is very fond of the right combination of rationality and emotionality.

Hermmann and Coufal (CZ)

Despite their young age, Herman and Coufal currently belong to he most interesting designers that the Czech Republic has to offer. Each project seems to get if not a prize then a nomination. Their scope is rather broad, ranging from product design, public space design to exhibition installations and presentations. Their exterior bench Satellite made for MMCité have so far gained them most media attention. Its distinct concrete form of a „plate“ demonstrated sculpture qualities without losing any functionality. The bench won them the Objav roka 2016 title (Discovery of the Year 2016) at the Czech Grand Design. Their cooperation with Bomma brought them RED DOT Design Awards prize for the IGNIS lighting collection that showed original work with cut glass. Lately, they have been testing the option of bending metal tubes and rods. Having started with the minimalist geometrical Gong lights, they continue with the series of Spagetti hangers. Their shape result from observing how we mostly hang our coats on hangers, so they made them in two versions – standing and hanging.
